Book Company’s companion™ is a CD-ROM based title-reference
database that contains approximately 1.5 million titles
from Ingram’s extended title database, including 600,000
titles carried by Ingram distribution centers.
companion™
includes not only bibliographic information but also extended
annotation information, multiple keyword searching in
all fields, and weekly updates of title and Ingram stock
status information.
With WordStock’s interface, you can use companion™ from any workstation, not just the main computer(s), so you can find titles while working at customer service desk, while receiving a shipment, or even at the POS while the customer is waiting.
The interface also offers the convenience of accessing companion™ from any WordStock program that allows you to look up or to search for titles, such as Inventory File, Key Word Search, Ordering, Receiving, Point-of-Sale, etc.
Like WordStock’s basic Key Word Search program, the interface enables you to make WordStock Inventory records and to add titles to purchase orders.
WordStock’s companion™ Interface supports a special ‘expert’ mode that enables you to search more fields in more ways. For example, you can search for books from Perseus Press that contain the word “Boston” or just the string “bost”.
companion™ runs under the Windows® operating system, so you’ll need to have a separate computer for it — please see the box at the bottom of the page for details.

Requirements & Costs
WordStock’s companion™ Interface is included with WordStock at no charge. However, because companion™ runs on Windows® - based computers, you’ll need an Ethernet card to connect your WordStock computer to the computer that is running companion™.
If you don’t already have a network in your store, you’ll need the QNX® version of a program called TCP/IP to handle communications between WordStock and the Windows® - based computer that is running companion™. TCP/IP for QNX® sells for $95.
Labor fees for installing these network cards are $60/hour; on-site installation by WordStock staff will require that you pay travel and accommodation expenses.
